Raymond Soat

Services for Raymond Anthony Soat 89 of Milford, who died Wednesday, May 17th at his home in Milford will be held at a later time in July at Milford.

Mr. Soat was born to Bernard and Christine (Sterzinger) Soat at Milford, Iowa on April 10, 1917.  He graduated from Terril High School in 1934.

On October 25, 1941 he married Velva Mae Eikleberry. They farmed near Spirit Lake and Milford until their retirement in 1972 when they made their home in Milford. Ray was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theatre. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star in recognition of his service.

Ray was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford and a member of the D. A.V.  In addition to spending with family and friends, Ray enjoyed reading, traveling, helping with farming and construction work.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary Lee Beatty and her husband, Gary of Hartley, IA, Jean Sharrock of San Jose, CA, Helen Groth of San Jose, CA, Bette Bush and her husband, Shane of Pipestone, MN; and one son, Tom Soat of Milford, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Surviving also is one sister, Margaret Pavelko of Jackson, MN.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Velva, daughter, Patty, brother, Eugene, and sister, Evelyn Sheley.
