Rita Joenks Rita Rae Joenks, 67, of Wahpeton, Iowa, died January 9, 2006, in Wahpeton. She was born July 28, 1938, in Hartley, Iowa, the daughter of Edith (Vietor) and John Thorne of Hartley. Rita was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Hartley. She was a 1957 graduate of Hartley High School and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She and her family lived in Springdale, Arkansas, for 23 years, where she worked as a secretary for Springdale Memorial Hospital, Springdale High School and Southwest Junior High School. Rita and her husband moved to Spencer, Iowa, in 1990 and to Wahpeton in 1991. She worked at Nelson Jewelry in Spencer and as a secretary for the Spirit Lake School District. She was a member of the Union Memorial Church in Milford, Iowa, and of the Lakeville Township Club. Survivors include her husband, Frank Joenks, to whom she was married Oct. 13, 1962, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley; her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Laurinda Joenks of Springdale; one brother, Vance Thorne and wife Ruth of Spokane, Washington; two sisters, Barbara Rusch of Slater, Iowa, and Lynn Dotson and husband Nyle of Spencer; nieces and nephews, Sheila Johnson and husband Bert of Spokane, Ryan Dotson and wife Kristen of Spencer, Michelle Rusch of Ames, Martina Rusch of Chicago, Illinois, Risa Dotson and fiancé Chant Eicke of Eugene, Oregon, Matthew Rusch and wife Catie of Charlottesville, North Carolina, and Marcus Rusch of Ames; and her stepmother, Ferne Thorne of Hartley.
