Paula Thomas
She was united in marriage to Brian Thomas on August 6, 1976 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home in St. Cloud, Minnesota until moving to Spirit Lake in 1980. Two sons were born to this union, Chad and Grant. Paula was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. She was also a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Paula had a zest for life, enjoying good times with family and friends. She lived life to the fullest with lots of laughter and compassion for others. She enjoyed music, biking, speed walking and dancing. Family was always a priority in Paula’s life and as such she chose to reverse the order of education, career and family. When her two sons were in their teens, she knew it was time to obtain a Bachelors Degree and ultimately a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law, fulfilling a life long desire to practice law and own her own firm. A dream and goal she achieved. Paula passed away November 1, 2006 at her home in Spirit Lake at forty-nine years of age. She is survived by her father, Donald Happe of Sioux City; husband Brian Thomas of Spirit Lake; sons, Chad of Waterloo and Grant of Spirit Lake; siblings, Donna Kern (Tom) of Papillion, NE; Jean Waligoske (David) of Brookings, SD; Mary Clare (David) of Sioux City, IA; Patty “Tricia” Hagberg (Jim) of Pine Cliff, CO; Dan Happe (Brandee) of Walford, IA; Jim Happe (Kendra) of Marshalltown, Iowa; Robert Happe (Jane) of Carrolltown, TX; Charles Happe (Carol) of Sioux City, IA; Tom Happe (Charisse) of Windham, Maine; and John Happe of Soldatna, Alaska; thirty-three nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews; other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alyce Happe, sister, Theresa Happe, brother, Joseph Happe, sister-in-law, Jolene Happe and her grandparents, Jim and Pauline Duncan and Dick and Loretta Happe.
