Phyllis Streit

Phyllis Jean Streit was born to Frank and Anna (Schulte) Thiele at Ashton, Iowa on April 19, 1929. She graduated from St. Joseph High School at Ashton.

On April 18, 1950 she married James L. Streit at Ashton, Iowa. The couple lived in Charles City, Spirit Lake and retired to Milford in 1991. Phyllis worked as an assistant to Dr. Clayton and later at Esther’s Dress Shop in Spirit Lake. First and foremost she was a wife and a mother.

Phyllis died Friday, May 12, 2006 at her home in Milford after a lengthy illness.

She loved to latch-hook and sew as well as decorate her home with brass accents. Phyllis would bake a couple hundred cookies every year to sell on her garage sale. Many “garage salers” would look for “the cookie house.” She played the piano, accordion, and loved to dance. She was the biggest fan of her son’s music career.

Phyllis had a deep faith, love for God, and the Rosary. She had a great sense of humor and there was never a dull moment when she was around.

She is survived by her husband, James L. Streit of Milford, IA, son, Steven J. Streit and his wife, Jerilyn, of Milford, IA two granddaughters, Amy Lake of Milford, IA and Anne Schwieger of Lake Park, IA. Survivors also include her sister, Irene Richter of Ashton, IA and brother, Rev. Robert Thiele of Lake City, IA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
