Norris Philip Nielsen was born to Elmer and Olga (Gustafson) Nielsen at Arnolds Park, Iowa on July 6, 1939.  He graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1957 and then furthered his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion graduating in 1961.

Norris taught at the high school in Rock Valley, Iowa for a short time before moving to Burnsville, Minnesota in 1962 where he was employed as an analyst with Sperry Univac near Minneapolis. He worked last at Aspen Research as an environmental research technologist prior to his retirement in January of 2005.

Norris passed away suddenly at his home in Burnsville on Thursday, May 4, 2006 as a result of a pulmonary embolism.  He was 66 years of age.

He is survived by two sisters in law, Patricia Nielsen, and Bonnie Nielsen, one niece, Vicki (Nielsen) McElmeel, and six nephews, Jeff Nielsen, Randy Nielsen, Steve Nielsen, Tom Nielsen, Dave Nielsen, and Mike Nielsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Olga Nielsen, two brothers, Gerald Nielsen and James Nielsen.
