Merle Markwardt Merle Markwardt, 50, of Milford, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa following a courageous battle of pancreatic cancer. Merle gave glory to the Lord throughout his battle. Merle was born July 6, 1955 in Webster City, Iowa where he attended Webster City Schools, K-12. He attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, before marrying his high school sweetheart, Teresa Southard from Clarion, Iowa on June 26, 1976. From there the two traveled to Grand Junction Colorado, where they both attended Mesa College. Merle then finished his early college education at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa where he received his teaching endorsement. He taught in Wymore, Nebraska for 2 years, 22 years at Okoboji High School in Milford, Iowa and 1 year at Emmetsburg. He received his Masters Degree of Education April, 2006. Over the years Merle has taught business courses, driver’s education, and coached wrestling, baseball and track. Merle was manager at Boji Bay Water Park and had the opportunity to supervise Arnold’s Park Amusement Park in years past. Merle was actively involved in his church, Spirit Life Fellowship, in Spirit Lake, where he was a board member and church treasurer for many years. Merle is survived by his wife, Teresa, and five sons: Marty and his wife, Janette, Levi and his wife, Moriah, and granddaughter, Shailen, Brett and his wife, Amee, and grandson, Malachi, Josiah and Cameron. Also surviving is his mother, Clarice Markwardt, sisters, Pat Nokes and Bonnie McCausland and brothers, Steve and Ken Markwardt. He was preceded in death by his Dad, Bernie. Memorials may be given to the Merle Markwardt Family Benefit Fund at Farmers Savings Bank, Northwest Federal and United Community Bank, all of Milford.
