Lloyd G. Peters Lloyd George Peters was born April 21, 1922 in Rudd, IA, the son of Henry and Vest (McElroy) Peters. He was raised in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1940. Lloyd enlisted in the Navy on August 26, 1942 serving most of his time in the Atlantic. He received an Honorable Discharge on Dec. 15, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN. After moving to Lake Park, IA, Lloyd began working for a construction company. He helped build the Boyers Store, ARCO Dehydrating Plant and Vacation Village on West Okoboji. On Sept. 2, 1948, he married Irene Garloff at the Lutheran Church in Sibley, IA. Two children were born to this union, Karen and Brian. In 1949, he began work at Smith Lumber Yard in Lake Park. Lloyd managed many lumber yards up to his retirement. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 839 and a member of the Legion of Guardsman. Lloyd is one of the V.F.W. Honor Guardsman. He also worked as a volunteer at the Iowa Veterans Home for many years, popping popcorn for the residents and staff. Lloyd passed away on Sept. 10, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa at eighty-four years of age. He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughter, Karen Hansen and her husband Duane of Lake City, MN, son, Brian Peters of Marshalltown, IA; grandsons, Jim Hansen and his wife, Tera, of Lake City, MN, Bob Hansen of Red Wing, MN; brother, Dick Peters of Boise, ID; sister, Lucille Cooper of Boise, ID; nieces and nephews.
