Lowell Fullmer
Following graduation from New Virginia High School, Lowell entered the Army Air Corps. He served in the air corps as an engineer with the 26th Maurader during WWII. He received his BA from Simpson College in Indianola where he played third base for the Simpson Red Men. Lowell went on to further his education at Bemidji State College, Iowa State University in Ames, and Drake University in Des Moines where he received his MA. He married Evelyn Wipperman at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Grimes, Iowa, on February 9, 1951. They were blessed with three children in their 55 years of marriage, Lola Carol Fitch and the late Keith Fitch of Le Mars, IA, (granddaughter Abbey Fitch Ruden and husband, Matt, great granddaughter, Olivia, of Ames, IA and grandson,, Seth Fitch, of Chicago, IL), Lee Ann James and husband, Lonnie, of Omaha, NE, (grandson, Christopher Dumdei and wife, Lisa, and great grandson, Tyler, and great grand-daughter, Ashlynn, of Des Moines, IA, and grandson, Daniel Stamp, of Des Moines, IA), Kevin Fullmer and wife, Cindy, of Thornton, CO, (granddaughters, Brooke, Brittany and Brandi all of Thornton, CO). During his 35 years in education, "Mr. Fullmer" was a teacher, a coach taking a basketball team to state, and superintendent of schools. His passion was to help young people. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Milford, the Retired Teacher's Association of Spirit Lake, where he served on the Legislative Task Force, the Twilight Lodge of Spirit Lake, the Abu Bekr Shriners in Sioux City, and the American Legion Post 384 in Milford. He also served as a director for the Boy's Athletic Association in Boone and served on the Arnold's Park and Okoboji School Board for many years. He umpired girl's state softball tournaments in Fort Dodge for 10 years and was a member of the Girl's Softball Umpires Hall of Fame. Things that brought joy to Lowell's life were spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, an occasional trip to the casino, umpiring baseball and softball, refereeing football and basketball, playing bridge and visiting with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: infant Max, Emil Jean and Kenneth. He is also survived by one brother, Paul Fullmer and wife, Gunver, one sister-in-law Ruth Ann Fullmer, two brothers-in-law, Don Wipperman and wife Maxine, Rudy Wipperman and wife, Linda and one sister-in-law, Verna Dutton and husband Bob and several nieces and nephews.
