Leona M. Bahl

Leona M. Bahl was born August 6, 1916 the daughter of Fred and Margaret Garms in Lake Park, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Sioux Valley, MN and Lake Park.

Leona was united in marriage to Reynold Bahl on June 15, 1935. The couple farmed northwest of Spirit Lake for twenty-six years, where they raised their family of four children, Robert, Beverly, Sharon and Karen.

The couple retired from farming in 1961 and Reynold began working for Pioneer Seed Company for the next twenty years. Reynold passed away in May, 1982.

Leona was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, where she was active in Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Club, the Congenial Club, and volunteered for the local blood bank.

Leona passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Milford Nursing Home in Milford at eighty-nine years of age.

Left to survive are her children, Robert Bahl and his wife Nancy of Kinglsey, Iowa; Beverly Waters of Shenandoah, Iowa, Sharon Ballou and her husband Dave of Ozark, Missouri; and Karen Kerns and her husband Doug of North Liberty, Iowa. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Margaret.
