Kenneth L. Farmer
Ken was united in marriage to Betty Meyer on September 9, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. The couple made their home in Spirit Lake, where he worked for Farmer’s Washed Sand and Gravel until 1960. He then worked for Coca-Cola until his retirement in 1985. Ken was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. He was active in the community as a Cub Scout & Boy Scout Leader and coached little league. He enjoyed his family and was an avid golfer. Kenneth passed away Monday, May 29, 2006 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-three years of age. He is survived by his wife Betty; sons, Kenneth L. Farmer, Jr (Terri) of Arnolds Park, Bruce Farmer (Sabrina) of Edgewater, FL, Tom Farmer (Carolyn) of Clear Lake, IA and Mark Farmer (Sue) of Gilbert, AZ; daughters, Barbara Taylor (Chris) of Lutz, FL and Michelle Janasko (John) of Estherville, IA and Gilbert, AZ. He is also survived by a brother, Don Farmer; grandchildren Wes Farmer, Kelly Pottebaum, Ben and Joe Peters, Ann Russell, David and Julayne Farmer, Jake, Paxton and Carson Farmer, Luke and Lindsey Farmer; step-grandchildren, Jake Medlock, Brittany Grau, Jacob and Jasmin Taylor; great-grandchildren, Blake and Cooper Pottebaum, Jacob Peters and Mikayla Farmer; other family and several friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Elwin and Ida Farmer, son, Douglas Farmer, mother and father-in-law Elmer and Hattie Meyer, son-in-law Mark Peters, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. Kenneth LeRoy Farmer, Sr., was born January 28, 1923 in Spirit Lake, the son of Elwin and Ida (Hunt) Farmer. He was raised and educated in Spirit Lake, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1943. He entered the U. S. Navy in 1943, serving in the Pacific attached to the Marine Corps as a signalman until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1946.
