Freddy M. Andersen Freddy Madsen Andersen was born January 11, 1923 in Cherokee, Iowa the son of Oluf and Agnes (Madsen) Andersen. Freddy was raised on a farm near Sutherland, Iowa. Freddy was united in marriage to Clara Joan Pedley on July 17, 1953 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Spirit Lake, where Freddy worked as an auto mechanic until retirement in 1991. Freddy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. He was also a member of Twilight Lodge #329 in Spirit Lake. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car racing, gardening and collecting antiques. He was especially proud of his collection of one-cylinder gasoline engines, spark plugs and tools. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his later years, he enjoyed bird watching and going on short day trips to various antique shops and flea markets. Freddy passed away Friday, June 9, 2006 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake at eighty-three years of age. He is survived by his wife of almost fifty-three years, Clara; children, Tony Andersen and his wife Pat of Aitkin, MN, Joanne and her husband Bob Wubben of Des Moines, IA, Dale Andersen and his fiancé Sue of Spirit Lake and Donnie Andersen and Annie of Spirit Lake. He is also survived by five grandsons, four great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; eighteen nieces and nephews and several friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
