Edna Thurman Edna Christina Thurman was born on October 2, 1916 on a farm north of Sutherland, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Detlef Selk and Maria Christina Peper. On February 24, 1936, Edna was united in marriage to Everett Lee Thurman in Cherokee, IA. They were engaged in farming in the Sutherland area before purchasing their farm west of Lake Park in the early 1960’s where they resided together for over forty years. Edna worked faithfully at her husband’s side both inside and out for their entire lives. She enjoyed talking with family on the phone, playing solitaire and cards, watching game shows on TV and going to dinner date. Edna and Everett never had children of their own but Edna always had a warm hug and a kind ear for children who needed it. Their love for one another was evident in their caring interactions with each other. Edna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Park, Rebekahs Lodge, cemetery society, The Afternoon Club and the Chairman of the Lest Coin Fund, who donated funds to the missions. She passed away on March 7, 2006 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake at eighty-nine years of age. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Everett; four brothers, Delbert, Raymond, Elmer and Harold; and several special family members.
