Donald McClain

Donald Gene McClain was born on January 22, 1950 in Spirit Lake, Iowa (Dickinson County). He was the youngest child of Minnie Isabelle Nugent and Floyd Joseph McClain. He was welcomed home by three siblings Marlys (Beam), Arnold and Alice (Deel).

Donald grew up on a farm northwest of Lake Park and always had a love for dairy cows. He farmed and operated a dairy farm for many years after graduating high school from Harris-Lake Park in 1968.

Donald married Delma Elaine Berg on January 31, 1976 at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. To this union two children were born Jennifer Elizabeth (1977) and Joshua Adam (1979).

Donald was a member of 4-H and FFA. He later became a 4-H leader while his children participated. He enjoyed several trips to the Iowa State Fair over that time period.

Donald was a democrat and was proud of his faith. He joined St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa, Easter of 2003. Donald said that his heart and soul had always been at St. Joseph’s. He frequently shared that his faith gave him a feeling of peace in his mind, joy in his heart, and hope for his soul.

Donald thanked God everyday for all he had done in his life and would do in his days to come, also for loving him. Donald had no fear of death – after all death was only a stepping stone to his next adventure to come.

Donald is preceded in death by his father – Floyd McClain (1975), his mother - Minnie McClain (2002), his brother – Arnold McClain (1998), and several aunts and uncles.

Donald is survived by his wife – Delma Elaine, daughter – Jennifer Elizabeth, son – Joshua Adam, and many close family and friends.
