Clarence Nattress Clarence Elwood Nattress was born February 25, 1910 on a farm in Westport Township, Dickinson County the son of William and Lillie (Johns) Nattress. Clarence had three sisters, four brothers and seven half brothers and sisters. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He continued to help his mother farm until she stopped farming in 1925. Clarence then worked as a hired man for George Jewell in Excelsior Township until the end of 1933. Clarence was married to Hazel Best on January 2, 1934, and to this union two children were born, Edwin Lewis and Norman Neal. Clarence farmed for thirty-six years in Dickinson County before moving to Milford in the fall of 1970. Clarence continued to go to the farm during planting and harvest season to help Norm, Eugene and Greg where he was needed. When he was not needed on the farm he was the care taker at the Milford Housing, Inc. for ten years. He loved to refinish oak and walnut furniture. Evenings were spent playing cards or Dominos. Clarence was a member of Union Memorial Church in Milford. Clarence passed away August 6, 2006 at the Milford Nursing Center in Milford, IA at ninety-six years of age. Clarence is survived by his son, Norman Nattress and his wife Shirley; grandsons, Eugene Nattress and his wife Brenda and Greg A. Nattress and his wife Deanna; five great grandchildren, Greg P. Amanda, Bradley, Tyler and Brianna; sister, Lucille Cook of Lakefield, MN; sister-in-law, Angeline Nattress; many nephews and nieces and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel in 1984; son, Edwin Lewis in 1934; two sisters, Marie and Dorothy; four brothers, LeRoy, Kenneth, Lester and Woodrow; seven half brothers and sisters.
