Bernice L. Walsh Bernice Luella Walsh was born on Sept. 6, 1913 in Tracy, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (McCombs) Sytsma. On February 28, 1932 Bernice was united in marriage to Bernard Walsh in Jackson, MN. The couple farmed near Superior, before moving to a farm near Spirit Lake in 1942 where they spent most of their time until this past year. Since June Bernice has lived at Hi Rise in Jackson, MN. Bernice enjoyed sewing, reading and playing music for her family and friends. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spirit Lake. Bernice passed away on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 in Jackson, MN at ninety-two years, eleven months and twenty-five days. She is survived by her daughters Mary Fisher of Spencer, IA, Gail and her husband Wayne Sckneeklath, and Doris and her husband David Zahradnik; sister, Ruby Weir of Estherville, IA, Opal Carlson of Trimont, Annabelle Halsrud Peton of Estherville; brother, Warren Sytsma and his wife Darlene of Hutchinson, MN; her late brother John’s wife, Effie Sytsma of Nielsville, WI; nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, daughters, Bernice and Martella; husband, Bernard; five sisters, Violet Sundahl Kamerick, Helen Davis, Bonnie Seaney, Edith Olson DeWall and Maxine Foster; two brothers, John and Garth Sytsma; one grandson Chuck Fisher; two great-grandsons, Nick Schneekloth and Brandon Fisher; her good friend, Richard Wilson.
