Beverly “Jo” Hollis

Beverly “Jo” Hollis, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Westwood Nursing Home in Sioux City. “Jo” was born on September 7, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from the Presentation Academy in 1961, and graduated from business college in 1963. She worked as the Manager/Secretary at Nussbaum Industry for sixteen years. She took care of buying and selling in the United States and many foreign countries.

Jo moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1977 to be with her mother, Emma. Jo suffered from illness from early childhood and continued suffering with her health as years passed. She did her very best to be independent and productive during those years.

She kept in touch with friends from Louisville, Kentucky and those in Spirit Lake. She was a volunteer Pink Lady at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for two years. Soon Jo became disabled and continued suffering much over the years until her death.

Jo was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Spirit Lake. She had taught religion classes and sang in the choir with a strong, true voice. She was an avid reader and won many awards for her poetry.

Jo is survived by her sisters, Barbara Spencer of Spencer, Iowa and Gloria Flair of South Sioux City, Nebraska, three nieces and their husbands – Debbie Wiersma and husband Randy, Kate Klimesh and her husband Michael of Spillville, Iowa, and Jennifer Flair of South Sioux City, Nebraska; nephew, Gene Flair and wife Rita of Sioux City; three grand nephews, Josh Spencer, Jason Spencer and Benjamin Klimesh and several great-grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Emma Zill.
