Anna Schlichting Anna Dorthea Janna Raveling Schlichting was born on December 9, 1914 in Remsen, IA, daughter of Gerhard and Augusta (Schroeder) Raveling. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church. Her family moved to Ocheyedan in 1915 where she attended rural school and graduated high school in 1934. Anna then completed Cosmetology School and opened a beauty shop in Peterson, IA. On June 21, 1940, Anna was united in marriage to Walter Schlichting. The couple farmed in Peterson, IA and Paullina, IA before moving to a farm in Lake Park. After retirement in 1976, they moved into town. Anna was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and a member of the Excelsior Federated Women’s Club. She passed away on October 2, 2006 at the Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, IA at ninety-one years of age. Anna is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Schlichting and his wife Nancy of Spencer, IA, David Schlichting and his wife Linda of Elk Point, S.D.; three granddaughters, Susan Miller, Cynthia Carlson and Joy Rasche; four great-grandchildren, Noah and Brady Miller and Jack and Ava Rasche; one sister, Martha Walter of Balaton, MN.
