Arthur Dobberteen Arthur Henry Dobberteen, 94, of Milford died, Wednesday, March 23, 2006 at the Milford Nursing Center. Arthur was born April 4, 1911, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in the Chicago area and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. Upon graduation from high school, Arthur served in the service during WW 2 for four years. At the conclusion of the war he helped liberate the concentration camps. For the next 40 years, Arthur worked as a warehouse manager for the Joslyn Company headquartered in Chicago. He also worked with the company in the Minneapolis and Omaha operations. Upon retiring, he built a home on West Lake Okoboji. In July of 1986, he married Wanda Huisenga. For many winters they enjoyed vacationing in Florida. Arthur enjoyed fishing, visiting with family and friends, playing cards, especially Bridge. He was an avid book reader and spent many hours at the library. He liked all kinds of reading, but was especially fond of stories of the Civil War. For many years he could be seen walking with his dog “Meechie”. Many evenings he volunteered at the Spirit Lake American Legion. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Wanda; stepchildren, Linda (Leo) Roth of Mankato, MN, AnnaLea (Tres) Rich of Des Moines, IA, Karen (Dwight) Hartje of Storm Lake, Lisa Huisenga of Dallas, TX, and Charles (Jody) Huisenga of Milford, IA; 10 step grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Joyce Ericksen of Alta, IA.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell, daughter, Nancy Kells and stepson, Kevin Huisenga. Arthur will be remembered as a wonderful man, husband, and a good friend who always had a twinkle in his eye and a good story or a joke to tell. IN MEMORY SERVICE CLERGY MUSIC INTERMENT |
