Sadie R. “Sally” Semmens

Sally was born February 7, 1904, to John A. and Isabelle (Scott) Glendenning, in Gardner, Mass., where she received her education.

During World War II Sally worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” for Grumman Aviation, Long Island, N.Y. She later worked in retail sales and retired from the fine jewelry department at Macy’s in 1969 when she moved to Florida. Sally moved to Spencer in 1997.

Sally, 101, passed away at home, Wednesday, July 13, 2005.

Sally is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Louise Crouch and Myrtle Wetherbee; brother Herman Glendenning; husbands Hugh MacAlister, Floyd Weeks and Ryerson Semmens; son Hugh MacAlister, who died in Okinawa during World War II; and daughter Eleanor MacAlister Oechslin.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Russell S. (Maureen) Oechslin, Spencer, Iowa; Paul D. Oechslin, Huntington, N.Y., and Donald T. (Gillian) Oechslin, Simsbury, Conn; five great-grandchildren, Tamara Sue Oechslin, Seattle; Richard Scott Oechslin, Houston; Gregory Douglas Oechslin, Huntington Station, N.Y. and Kurt Donald and Kris Emma Oechslin, Simsbury; niece Janet (Lloyd) Loop, Saugerties, N.Y.; nephew-in-law S. Miller Logan, Port Orange, Fla; grand-niece Nancie Stone, Dunbarton, N.H.; and many friends.
