Michael W. Struthers

Michael William Struthers was born January 28, 1958 in the Ft. Dodge hospital to Robert W. and Elmira M. (Schott) Struthers of Rolfe, Iowa. While growing up, he lived in Rolfe, Avon Lake, Denison and Hospers, Iowa.

He graduated from the Spalding High School of Granville, Iowa in 1977. Following graduation he moved to Spirit Lake and has worked for Mayer Studios; Shaw Paint & Glass; EMT1 at Dickinson County Hospital; Agri-Bolt; Northern Iowa Diecasting; Reed Electric, Freudenbrug/NOK; Golden Limousine; Mike’s Sales & Services (freelance photographer, electrician and hot tubs).

Mike was married twice. His children came from the second marriage to Tammy Parks. They were married on April 17, 1984.

Mike was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. He was a member of the Spirit Lake Jaycees, Toys for Tots and was known as Tickle Man to his nieces, nephews and children of friends. He was also known as The Lakes Area Hot Tub Man.

Mike battled a severe brain tumor for 19 months. During that time he stayed as active in his duties as his treatment would allow. He felt that anything was possible and was very optimistic about his situation.

His father Robert W. Struthers preceded him in death.

At a later date Mike will be cremated and interred with his father in Hospers, Iowa, overlooking the swimming pool that he helped build as a teenager.
