Melvin Froendt Melvin George Froendt, the son of William and Thelma (George) Froendt, was born February 8, 1932 in Jackson, Minnesota. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1949. On February 5, 1955 Melvin was united in marriage to Dora Jayne Whaley. They lived in Spirit Lake from 1955 to 1966. Melvin was employed by John Deere Implement, Park Dairy, Carver’s Gas and Appliance, and for the last 39 years resided and farmed west of Milford. Melvin enjoyed farming and spending time with his family and friends. He loved reading books and learning about history. He also enjoyed giving his grandchildren rides on tractors and teaching them about the farm and many things about life. Melvin passed away on Saturday October 8, 2005 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife of 50 years, Dora; daughter, Jolene Froendt, grandchildren, Luke and Molly of Omaha, NE; son, Roger and his wife, Mary, grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, and Evan of Tea, SD; sister, Marge Schneidawind of Spirit Lake; brother, Merle Froendt and his wife, Elaine of Glenville, MN; and many other relatives and friends.
