Mary Bruett Mary Katherine Bruett was born July 3, 1902 at Mt. Pulaski, Illinois. The family moved to Dows, Iowa when she was a small child. In 1918 to a farm north of Montgomery. On February 11, 1922 she was married to Henry Bruett and made their home on a farm near Montgomery. They lived there 9 years and during that time 3 children were born, Robert, LaBerta and George (Bill). They moved to a farm, south of Lake Park in Excelsior Township, where the children graduated from high school. They left the farm and bought a hardware store in Lake Park which they operated for 3 years, then moved back to Montgomery in 1950 Mary enjoyed many activities. She took the U.S. Census in Diamond Lake Township as an enumerator. She was a member of the Montgomery United Methodist Church, the WSCS and the Montgomery Women’s Club. She was a volunteer at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady and as a volunteer in the gift shop. She was an Assistant Postmaster for 9 years, worked at Vacation Village for 9 years and worked part time in the grocery store. When Henry passed away in 1978 she moved to an apartment in Spirit Lake. She passed away March 26 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, 2 sisters, Netty Goodman and Bessie Drexler and 2 brothers, George and Harry Locey. Surviving are her 3 children, Robert and Arlis Bruett of Spirit Lake, LaBerta Andre of Estherville and George (Bill) Bruett and Gladys of Estherville; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
