Jerold Kelley

Jerold (Jerry) Kelley was born on October 29, 1914 in Ruthven, Iowa, the son of Roy and Elizabeth (Wilson) Kelley.

On May 2, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lorna Nelson. They made their home in the Milford and Lakeview areas until moving to Spirit Lake. The couple attended the United Methodist Church of Spirit Lake.

Jerry was a past member of the Spirit Lake Fire Department, Twilight Lodge No. 329 AF & AM, and a Chapter Founder of Dickinson County Izaac Walton League. During his working years, Jerry was a game warden, police officer, Dickinson County Deputy Sheriff and Chief of Police for the City of Spirit Lake, and an over the road truck driver. He also worked as an undercover agent for the Iowa Liquor Commission, and as Spirit Lake Post Master. Jerry served as Spirit Lake’s Mayor, and owned and operated the Rambler Car Dealership/Standard Gas Station. In his later working years, Jerry did custom farm work. He loved to watch wildlife and he spent his free time fishing and playing cribbage.

Jerry passed away on June 16, 2005 in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety years of age.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Robert (Bob) and his wife Sharon, Richard (Dick) and his wife Jackie, his daughter Linda Larson and her husband Tom; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lorna, a brother, Ronald, his parents, and a grandson Jamie.
