June Johnsen

June Harriet Johnsen was born June 6, 1915 to Carrie and Emil Christensen in Escanaba, Michigan.  She spent her high school years being the pianist for many musical events.  Upon graduation June enjoyed working in a jewelry store and optometrist office.  She married Daniel Schweitzer and to this union one son, Tom, was born.

June later married the love of her life, Kingsley Clinton Johnsen.  As the couple moved around the Midwest, June’s beloved piano also made the move.  King and June had three children – Carolyn, Chris and Jeff.  They moved to Spirit Lake after purchasing King’s Red Owl Grocery Store in 1973.  June taught piano lessons for forty years.  She also had ceramic classes and occasionally gave guitar lessons.  Her life was devoted to her children and grandchildren, passing on her love of nature, art, music and food.

June was preceded in death by her husband King and son, Chris.  Left to cherish her memory are sister Margaret Smarz, children Tom (Mary Jane) Schweitzer, Carolyn (Ron) Vincelli, Jeff (Sonya) Johnsen; grandchildren Tim, Rebecca, Jennifer, Cindy (Mark), Ryan (Emily), Nick (Amy), Marc, Sarah, Lindsay, Dillon and great grandchild, Henry.

A private family burial was held in Excelsior, MN on Saturday, September 24, 2005.
