Joe Chaffin
Joe Chaffin was
born to William (Bill) and June (England) Chaffin
on August 22, 1944 in Spencer, Iowa. Joe grew up on
the family farm Southwest of Milford. He graduated
from Milford High School in 1962 and attended Morningside
College in Sioux City for one year. He then returned
to Milford in the fall of 1963 to begin farming with
his father. On August 28, 1965 he married JoAnn Hodapp,
his high school sweetheart, in Milford. Joe enjoyed
farming for the rest of his working life with his
father and brother and was very proud of Chaffin Farms.
Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He
also had served as an Okoboji Community School board
member and 4H leader. He especially enjoyed helping
get calves ready to show at the Dickinson County Fair
each year. Joe was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.
He was a gregarious fellow who enjoyed telling stories
and conversing with anyone with a few minutes of time.
After retirement, he also enjoyed watching his five
grandchildren and following their activities, watching
RFDTV, and spending time with family and friends.
Joe was called home on June 17th with complications
from myotonic dystrophy, with which he had been struggling
for the last five years. He will be laid to rest at
Calvary Cemetery in Milford.
It is said that we are remembered forever in the hearts
of those we leave behind. Joe will live on in the
hearts of his wife JoAnn, his daughter Jill and her
husband, Bob Krebs, and their children Alex, Tyler
and Jackson Krebs of Lake Park, IA, his daughter Beth
and her husband, Bryan McCabe, and their children
Bryson and Brenna McCabe of Milford, his son Dave
and his wife, Liz Chaffin, of Des Moines, IA, and
daughter Sarah and husband, Ryan Lau, of Oakdale,
MN. Also cherishing Joe in their memory are his parents,
Bill and June Chaffin, brother Don and wife, Verona
Chaffin, and their family, and sister Kathy Chaffin,
all of Milford and many other relatives and friends.
