Inger Johnson

Inger Marie Johnson, the daughter of Melkior and Anna Christensen was born August 20, 1908. She received her education in southwestern Iowa.

On January 1, 1929 Inger was united in marriage to Iver Johnson of rural Spirit Lake. To this union one son, Merlin was born.

Iver and Inger farmed east of Milford until 1957 when they bought a home on the north end of Lake Okoboji. Several years later they built a home on Little Emerson Bay.

As Inger grew up, she always lived near a river or lake. Thus it’s easy to understand why she loved to fish. She seemed to know where the fish were biting and a lot of times, one could find her in her boat catching a variety of fish, which she would expertly filet and then share them with her family and friends.

Inger had many interests, such as bird watching, gardening, sewing and more. She was a seasoned traveler, going to Europe, Hawaii, Australia and the Caribbean. She wintered in southern Texas.

On Saturday February 5, 2005, Inger passed away at Milford Nursing Center at ninety-six years of age.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver, her parents and eight brothers.

Inger is survived by her son Merlin and his wife Kathy of rural Milford; grandsons, Jeff Johnson of Spirit Lake, and Gary Johnson of Miami, Florida; sister, Helen Barker of Gering, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.

My grandma is someone
Who is really a fun one!
My grandma can really cook
Without ever looking at a book.
My grandma can catch all the fish
That you could ever wish.
My grandma thinks everyone is her neighbor
And is always in everyone’s favor.
My grandma is so true and kind
A grandma like that is hard to find.
My grandma calls everyone her friend
So this is the way, a great woman’s story ends.
