Iva Boughey

Iva Geneva Winter Boughey was born April 9, 1909 on a farm at the Southwest corner of Superior, Iowa to John and Georgia (Walbridge) Winter. She attended school at Petersburg, Minnesota and State Line School. She attended high school in Estherville, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

Iva was united in marriage to Clarence A. Boughey of Terril, Iowa on July 18, 1926 at Estherville, Iowa. They lived in and around the area until moving to Laurens, Iowa, where they made their home for many years before moving to Marathon, Iowa and later retiring to their home in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Iva worked for Dr. Hovenden and Dr. Pitluck while in Laurens. While living in Marathon, she was a school cook for many years.

Iva was a member of the Methodist Church throughout her adult life. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary as well as Rebecca’s Lodge. Iva served as a pink lady for many years at the Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake and in various other volunteer groups.

Iva passed away Thursday, May 19, 2005 at Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, at ninety-six years of age.

She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Gustafson Rowlet of Storm Lake; son, Kenneth Dale Boughey and his wife Patricia of Laurens; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Viola Triggs, Irma Barie, Helen Branstedt and Edith Winter; brothers Leslie Winter, Elmer Winter and Lyle Winter; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
