Henry Russell Williams

Henry Russell Williams was born August 22, 1924 at Askew, Mississippi, the son of Charley and MaryBelle (Lewers) Williams.  He graduated from Crenshaw, Missippi, High School.

Henry enlisted in the US Army following high school.  He served in Europe during WWII, in Japan following the War, and was on active duty at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital During the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts.

Henry was united in marriage to Marlys Charnelle Counsell on June 4, 1949 in Denver, Colorado.  He retired in 1968 and moved the family to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where he immediately found employment at Berkley and Company.  He retired as Sales Manager in 1978.

Henry was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed gardening.

He and Marlys enjoyed life on Spirit Lake, and for the next twenty-one years, enjoyed the winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

Henry passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at eighty-one years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys and a son, Tom Williams, and his wife Jennifer.  He is also survived by granddaughters, Taylor and Bailey; sisters, Mary, Gloria and Rose; a daughter-in-law, Roxanne Baker; several nieces and nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Russ Williams, his parents, sisters, Jessie, Lulu Gene and Ida Leigh, and a brother, Charles.
