Gertrude Clark

Gertrude Van Otterloo Clark was born to Jacob and Margaret (Van Maanen) Van Wyhe at Hull, Iowa on March 1, 1921.  After completion of her high school education she attended Northwestern College in Orange City for a year.

On April 8, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gerrit Van Otterloo at Hull, Iowa.  Mr. Van Otterloo died in 1978.

In addition to her responsibilities as a mother and homemaker, Gertrude worked as a certified nurse’s aide for many years.

Gert was a member of Good News Community Church in Okoboji, where she was active in the Tuesday morning Bible study group.  She was also active in the Fun and Friendship Group.  Gert was an active swimmer and enjoyed reading and crewel embroidery.

In 1991 on her 70th birthday she was united in marriage to Merle Clark at Phoenix, Arizona.

Mrs. Clark died at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake on Sunday, September 4, 2005 at eighty-four years of age.

She is survived by her children, Gary Van Otterloo of Milford, Iowa, Marlow Van Otterloo of Mankato, MN, Curtis Van Otterloo of Medford, Minnesota and Judy Glasser of Phoenix, Arizona; her husband Merle Clark of Milford; step-children, Peggy, Richard and Carol Clark; grandchildren, Alice, Gerritt, Beth, Becca, Erin, David and Kate; great-granddaughter, Jordaen; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerrit Van Otterloo in 1978, her parents, ten brothers and five sisters.
