Donald J. Luchtel Donald Joseph Luchtel was born to Clarence and Esther (Ludwig) Luchtel on July 6, 1931. He grew up on a farm near Breda, Iowa and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to Mary (Mitzi) Dalhoff on June 26, 1954 at St. Augustine Church in Halbur, Iowa. Don started painting after graduating from high school. In 1953 he moved to Milford and worked for Roy Luchtel. Shortly thereafter he started his own painting business. He retired in 1995. Mr. Luchtel died Tuesday at Spencer Municipal Hospital at 74 years of age. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Don was an avid fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed league bowling. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Milford, IA, five sons, Glen Luchtel and his wife, Mary of Spirit Lake, Jeff Luchtel and his wife, Kae of Milford, Chris Luchtel and his, Kate of Lakewood, CA, Mark Luchtel and his wife, Shellee of Yankton, SD, Lee Luchtel and his wife, Nicole of Mt. Royal, NJ; one daughter, Susan Bredman and her husband, Brett of Cedar Falls, IA; and nine grandchildren: Rebecca Luchtel, Sara Luchtel. Seth Luchtel, Megan Luchtel, Keith Luchtel, Kevin Luchtel, Cody Bredman, Jessica Luchtel and Alexa Luchtel. Survivors also include one brother, Bob Luchtel and his wife, Joanie of Lakeview, IA and one sister, Bonnie Kaiser and her husband, Gary of Sioux City, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother in infancy, Patrick Luchtel, brothers-in-law, Fred Dalhoff, Jr., Elmer Dalhoff, Joseph Dalhoff and Gerald Dalhoff and his father and mother-in-law, Fred and Anna Dalhoff.
