Blanche Eva Meyer Blanche Eva Meyer was born September 23, 1913 in Chariton, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Nellie (Schrader) Goering. She started teaching out of high school and later received her Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University. Her career started in southern Iowa and she taught in Orleans, North Superior, Excelsior, Lake Center and Sibley. Blanche was a former member of Business and Professional Women (PBW). Blanche met Lester, her husband of 64 years, in Spirit Lake. They were married Friday, September 13, 1940 by Rev. Hazzard in Sibley, Iowa. The newlyweds spent the rest of their day at the Clay County Fair. She enjoyed knitting, camping and traveling. She and Lester visited Mexico and Guatemala in 1954, Hawaii in 1959 and Alaska in the 1980’s. The couple drove the camper to Washington State where Lester enjoyed salmon fishing, they continued on to Alaska. The couple attended the United Methodist Church. Blanche passed away at the Hilltop Care Center on April 1, 2005 at ninety-one years of age. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Lester.
