Alma Floss

Alma Elizabeth Floss was born January 26, 1912 at George, Iowa, the daughter of George and Minnie (Messer) Sudenga. Alma was raised and educated in George, Iowa. Upon graduation, Alma taught at a rural school near George for three years. She then attended Morningside College and National Business Institute in Sioux City.

Alma was united in marriage to John J. Floss on March 28, 1936. Due to John’s work at Armour Company, the family lived in several cities, including St. Joseph, Missouri, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Sioux City, Iowa.

Alma was an active member of Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she was active in choir and women’s groups. She was also an active bowler for many years.

Alma passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Milford Nursing Center in Milford at ninety-three years of age.

She is survived by her children and wives’, Gary and Chris Floss of New Brighton, Minnesota and Bob and Lisa Floss of Milford, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan, John, Anne, Isaac and Simon; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on May 17, 1983, siblings, Raymond, Willard, Lois, Edna Mae and Georgia.
