Vera McKinstrey

Vera Hazel McKinstrey was born March 22, 1909 to Otto and Olga (Draves) Schroeder at the farm home in Lakeville Township, Dickinson County, Iowa. She was baptized June 13, 1909 in the Vernon Township Lutheran Church, Wright County, Iowa. She was confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Spirit Lake, Iowa on September 22, 1929.

Don Lee was adopted into the McKinstrey home on March 23, 1943. In 1946 they moved to Orleans. Vera helped organize the Orleans P.T.A. She also was in charge of the book rental the school maintained. Vera was active in the Museum Historical Organization; she served on the board for several years. She was a member of the Audubon Society and an avid bird watcher. She was membership chairman for both organizations. Vera was active in girl’s 4-H serving as assistant leader in two clubs in Dickinson County.
