Stanley Nelson

Stanley Herbert Nelson was born May 3, 1926 at Milford, Iowa to Oleo Edward Nelson and Christine Malea Ohme Nelson. He attended school at Milford until he was 10 when the family moved to Terril. He graduated from Terril High School in 1944. After graduation Stanley enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served in Guam during WW 2. He was discharged in 1946 and attended the University of Iowa for a year.

On July 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to Jean Lanpher at Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Terril where he was a rural mail carrier for 33 years.

Stanley was active in the Terril community. He was a 57 year member of Walsh American Legion Post 432, a 50 year member of the Terril Telephone Co, Serving as Secretary and board member, was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and Shriners. He also enjoyed his family and time spent with the grandchildren and great grand-children. In his pastime he fished, hunted and played golf. He had the distinction of having two holes in one.

Death came on June 23 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Surviving are his wife, Jean; sons, Doug and wife, Deb, Jerry and wife, Candie, and Dale and wife, Bert, all of Terril; daughter, Jeana and husband, Tom Ridder, of Omaha; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 3 sisters, Lillian Glover of Kansas, Gladys Laursen of Sioux Falls, and Evelyn Lanpher of Worthing, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice Huhn and brothers, Glen and Ed.
