Dr. Robert Wahl

Dr. Robert Charles Wahl, Age 86, of Loveland, Co. of Spirit Lake, and formerly of Sibley, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 30, 2004, at the Sierra Vista Healthcare Center in Loveland, Colorado.

Robert Charles Wahl was born April 4, 1918 in Gladbrook, Iowa to Herbert and Kathryn Budde Wahl. Robert graduated from Gladbrook High School. He attended Iowa State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation in 1943, he served 40 months in the United States Army Veterinary Corps during World War II.

On December 1, 1943 he married Margot Bacon at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

Following his Army discharge he established a Vet practice in Sibley, Iowa.

Dr. Walt Hermann joined the practice four years later and they remained in the partnership until Robert retired in 1983. Robert was an active member in the Methodist Church. He served eight years on the Sibley School Board, and five years on the Sibley City Council. He was president of the Rotary Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Board of Health, and the County Conservation Board.

After his retirement, Robert and Margot relocated to Spirit Lake, Iowa where they made their summer home their permanent residence. His favorite hobbies were fishing and bird watching. He enjoyed volunteering with the Pegasis Program at the Spirit Lake Middle School and served on the Spirit Lake Protective Association. In January 2004, they relocated to Loveland, Colorado to be closer to their children.

Robert is survived by his wife, Margot, and four children, Kathy Reents and husband Dr.

Will of Loveland, Co., Peggy O’Doherty and husband Bob of Littleton, Co., Dr. Bob Wahl, Jr. and wife, Karolen of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jim Wahl and wife Jeannie of Clear Lake, Iowa. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2004. at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Kay Hooper, officiating. A visitation will be conducted on Friday evening, November 12, 2004, with family present from 6-8 p.m., at the Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake, Iowa. Interment will take place at the Holmen Township Cemetery, Sibley, following a light lunch at the church.
