Ruth McCauley Ruth McCauley, 103, of Lake Park and formerly of rural Harris, died April 3, 2004 at the Lake Park Care Center. Ruth Larson McCauley was born January 4, 1901 in Moorhead, Minnesota. At age 13 her family moved to the farm her grandfather had homesteaded. This farm was very near the Red River and she liked to recall how her brothers would walk across a narrow part of the river on fallen trees. She had fond memories of attending the newly constructed 1913 Oak Mound Consolidated School. While in her nineties, she still enjoyed reciting poetry she had memorized in grade school. In 1922 she married Harry McCauley. They farmed in the Harris area for forty-two years. Her husband died on October 17, 1975. In 1984 Ruth moved into her home in Lake Park. In January of 2000, at the age of 99 years, she became a resident of the Lake Park Care Center where she received wonderful care. Ruth was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, embroidering and oil painting. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Juanita McCauley of Lake Park; a grandson, Rob Soukup of Paullina, a granddaughter and her husband, Diane and David Rossman of Hartley; and two great-grandchildren, Brenton and Allison Rossman. She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Hansen; brothers, George, Ernest, Roland, Loyd and Vernon Larson; husband, Harry; son, Harold; daughter, Dorothy Soukup; and son-in-law Bob Soukup.
