P. Ben Atzen

P. Ben Atzen was born December 30, 1905 in Denison, Iowa the son of Peter Voy and Justina (Christensen) Atzen. He graduated from Lake Park High School and then attended Des Moines University.

He was united in marriage to Marine Hemmingson on November 24, 1931 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Ben’s work as a grain elevator manager and salesman brought the couple to Lake Park, Woden, Albert City, Denison and Storm Lake before moving to Spirit Lake in 1991.

Ben was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, Iowa. He was also quite active in the Lion’s Club, where he was a Lifetime Member. Ben loved to sing as he was active in the Church Choir, and a Barbershop Quartet.

Ben passed away June 5, 2004 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at ninety-eight years of age.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Marine Atzen of Spirit Lake, two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
