Mauritz Peterson

Mauritz Martin Peterson, 88, passed away at the Milford Nursing Center on January 23, 2004. He was born July 11, 1915, near Milford to Martin and Hannah (Hansen) Peterson. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1933. On June 1, 1935, he married Fern Flatt.

Until 1948 they farmed near Spirit Lake and Terril. Then they moved to LaSierra, California, where Mauritz earned a B. A. degree in 1953. Until 1975 he was a Seventh Day pastor, serving the El Cajon, National City, Fontana, Orange and Novato churches in California and Muscatine in Iowa. Mauritz and Fern retired to Spirit Lake in 1975.

Mauritz was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, his parents and three brothers, Howard, Wayne and Lee Peterson. He is survived by his daughter, Joy Dunford of Minden Mines, Missouri and son Jerry (Sharon) of Owatana, Minnesota, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
