James Spencer James Raymond Spencer was born February 6, 1927 at Rolfe, Iowa, the son of Harry and Muriel Spencer. He received his education near Rolfe, graduating from Des Moines Township School. He entered the US Army on December 4, 1945 until receiving an Honorable Discharge on June 15, 1947. Jim was united in marriage to Betty Louise Hixson on December 10, 1950 in Laurens, Iowa. The couple made their home in Laurens, Rolfe, Armstrong, Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park, Iowa. He worked as a draftsman for Iowa Electric for several years. Jim was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, yardwork and building bird houses. A husband, father, and grandpa…he thoroughly enjoyed family and friends. He was always willing to help out whenever possible. However, nothing was more special or important in his life than his grandchildren, Stevie and Jamey. Jim passed away Monday, October 11, 2004 at his son Mike’s home in Okoboji at seventy-seven years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Marci, wife Betty, sisters Buelah Biederman and Noni Cooksey; brothers Howard, Ron, Don, William, Dale, and Bobby. Surviving are his son Mike Spencer; grandchildren Stevie and Jamey; sister Maxine Dietrich, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
