Jack D. Bergendahl Jack D. Bergendahl was born January 23, 1934 in Ocheyedan, Iowa to Charlie and Margaret (Von Holdt) Bergendahl. He attended country school near Harris and Hartley, IA. He also attended Hartley High School. On January 13, 1952 he was united in marriage to Carole A. Ahrens in Sutherland, IA. He enlisted in the Air Force in September of 1952. He was released in April of 1953 to return to the farm because of the illness of his father. Jack and Carole farmed 4 years near Hartley, IA; 4 years near Sioux Valley, MN and 30 years near Lake Park, IA. In 1993 they moved into Lake Park where he took care of the Lake Park City Park for 7 years. He was also a substitute mail carrier for 20 years. Jack was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church; Lake Park American Legion; I.O.O.F. and the Lake Park Lion’s Club. He enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, fishing, and horseshoes. Jack was also known for his garden. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family and friends. He died March 27, 2004 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, IA. Surviving are his wife, Carole; children, Terry and Judy Bergendahl of Lake Park; Jackie Baumgarn of Arnolds Park; Brenda and Gary Kutzbach of Round Lake, MN and Linda and Mike Treharne of Lake Park; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Robert and Betty Bergendahl of Oregon; and sister-in-law, Linda Ahrens of Whitehouse, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents; Hank and Norine Kreykes (Carole’s parents); daughter Nancy Bergendahl; brother-in-law Lyle Ahrens; and grandson Cory Bergendahl.
