Elizabeth Shorey Elizabeth was born January 24, 1922 in Webster County in Iowa to Ray Frank and Rachel Clare (Griffee) Colwell. She graduated from Cherokee High School and furthered her education at the University of Dubuque and Finley Hospital School of Nursing. Betty had a brief marriage during W.W II. She was later married, for over 40 years, to Arlo Fox who passed away in 1990. She was married to Charles Shorey in 1992. They made their home on Charles’ farm, later moving to town in 2001. She was known for her excellent cooking and had decorated wedding cakes for many couples through the years. She was a member of Questers, Order of Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, life time member of Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, a 4-H leader, and belonged to Friendship Club for over 50 years. Betty is survived by her husband Charles, her children: Sandra Johnson of Paullina, IA, Robert Fox of St. Paul, MN, Dee Cornell and her husband, Robert, of Spirit Lake; granddaughter Beth Johnson of Spirit Lake, and grandson and wife, Elijah, and Sara Cornell of Spirit Lake; brothers, Jack and Bill Colwell of Spirit Lake; sisters: Lois Christensen and husband, Joe, of Mapleton, IA, Mary Minkler and husband, Lyle, of Prescott, AZ, and sister Sally Bevington of Orange Beach, AL. and many beloved nieces and nephews.
