Ethel Eihausen Ethel Julieth Eihausen was born February 28, 1922 near Ashton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Tillie (Willemssen) Houwen. She received her early education at a Lyon County rural school her father had attended, and an Osceola County rural school her mother had attended. She graduated from Ashton Public High School in Ashton, Iowa. Ethel was united in marriage to Albert Mernus Eihausen of Rock Rapids, Iowa on May 14, 1941 in the Messiah Lutheran Church of Independence, Missouri by Rev. E. H. Holsten. Due to the fact that her husband Albert was in the service during WWII, Ethel moved whenever possible to live near military bases in Amarillo, Texas, Harlington, Texas, Riverside, California, and Biloxi, Mississippi. After Al’s return from overseas duty and honorable discharge, the couple returned to live in Dickinson County, Iowa. Ethel was an avid genealogist. She was also a collector of all writing instruments, bottles, key chains, ashtrays, matchbooks and business cards. Ethel passed away October 21, 2004 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-two years of age. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Albert, and blessed with five surviving children are a daughter, Connie Jo Tilda Gilmore and her husband Dick of Linn Grove, Iowa, sons Douglas Jon Eihausen and Alisa Lockey of Milford, Iowa, Billy Jay Eihausen of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Alan Joel Eihausen and Christina of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Dr. Eugene Jorji Eihausen of Glendale, Arizona. Also surviving are grandson’s Joshua, Blake and Brett Eihausen. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, LaVon Joy Eihausen, and an infant brother, William John Houwen.
