Catherine DeGraw

Catherine Mae DeGraw was born May 23, 1916 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to McKenzie and Minnie Judd Hester. She graduated from Ft. Madison (Iowa) High School in 1934.

On November 29, 1949 she married Harold DeGraw at Spirit Lake. Katie worked for Dare’s House of Cotton, then the office of the City of Spirit Lake for 21 years. In retirement, she was a monitor for the CAASA domestic abuse home. She was a committed volunteer, always working to help others. Organizations she actively participated in were her church, First Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women, Rebekah Lodge, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and bingo for the American Legion.

Katie died at her apartment in Spirit Lake on November 20.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Robert and Elizabeth DeRousse of Pittburg, Missouri, Patricia and Jim Grim, Niceville, Florida, MacKenzie and Susan DeGraw, Tallahassee, Florida, and Harvey and Sandy DeGraw, Lake Park, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren;

Preceding Katie in death were her husband, Harold, in 1978 and son, Richard DeRousse and sister, Nellie Shaver.
