Leone Clifford

Carrie Leone Clifford was born on July 8, 1921 in Dundee, Minnesota, the daughter of Faye and Clifford Goodell. She graduated from Excelsior High School near Lake Park, Iowa and attended Junior College in Sheldon.

Leone married Donald Clifford on June 14, 1942 at her parent’s farm near Jackson, Minnesota. The couple lived in Estherville and later moved to the family farm west of Milford. To this union were born three children, Russel, Beverly, and Mark.

Leone was an accomplished cake decorator and was in demand for many years to make her beautiful wedding and anniversary cakes. Don and Leone retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Milford. During retirement she and Don continued to bake 35 pies a week for the Farmer’s Market in Spirit Lake. They spent their winters in Florida where they made many friends.

On Monday, September 27, 2004 Leone went to her heavenly home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, Donald Clifford of Milford, a son Russel Clifford and his wife, Marilyn, of Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter, Beverly Lindsey and her husband, Richard of Savannah, GA and a son Mark Clifford of Milford; eight grandchildren; Jennifer Walters, Kari Edwards, Aaron, Eric, and Adam Lindsey, Ben, Lucas, and Nathan Clifford; and eight great grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Marilyn Gouch of Bothell, WA as well as a host of friends and relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Dale Goodell, and a grandson, Brian Clifford.

The Master Walks With You

This time of sadness in your life
will pass and lessen too
As time moves on, you’ll understand
The Master walked with you.
We cannot handle stress alone
He tells us, “Take My Hand, I
walk Before, Beside, Behind,
I Am, ‘Oer All the land.”
So, put your hand in His each day
With each step, each thing you do
And know that daily He will guide
for The Master Walks With You.
