Abbie Duhn Abbie Louise Duhn was born to Nels and Mildred (Lewis) Christensen at Spirit Lake, Iowa on August 28, 1920. The family moved to the Estherville area when she was six and she received her education in the Estherville Public Schools. Abbie was baptized in the Estherville Baptist Church at the age of nine. On October 11, 1942 she was married to Louie Duhn at Jackson, Minnesota. They farmed near Graettinger, Iowa until 1953 when they returned to Spirit Lake. She was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Graettinger on June 14, 1953. The Duhn family joined Grace Lutheran Church of Spirit Lake in 1954. Abbie worked in various retail stores in Spirit Lake, including Ben Franklin and Matthews. She enjoyed the retail business and working with the public. Abbie enjoyed cooking, sewing and caring for her family. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Abbie passed away October 8, 2004 at the Lakes Regional Hospital following a long illness. Surviving are her seven children, Jerry (Inez) Duhn, Roger (Marlene) Duhn, William (Bonnie) Duhn, Delmar Duhn, Carol (Ernie) Cupp , Connie Lenox and Rick (Teri) Duhn; 13 grandchildren; 20 grandchildren; and two sisters.
